My PM Tenets…
I’m not kidding about these.
- know why we’re doing something, and why now.
- know to say no.
- simplicity is a good thing.
- big problems can be broken down into smaller problems.
- big things can be delivered in small chunks.
- a quick decision is better than a no decision.
- a 30 minute meeting is better than 215 slack messages.
- the “two out of three: speed, quality, coverage” is a false tradeoff; don’t tradeoff on quality.
- better to do few things well than more things half-assed.
- don’t start slack messages with ‘Hi’ and leave the recipient hanging. Provide context and ask upfront.
- rewriting your doc 47 times doesn’t make it better.
- don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.
- your customers don’t care about your org structure.
